Postcards From New York

Recently, Kathy - who many of you would have met in our store - took the new direct flight from Auckland to New York. In this edition of postcards, Kathy tells us about some of her favourite New York destinations and of course, which Hot Body pieces she wore while on holiday.

Manhattan

First stop was a walk above Manhattan’s west side - where the historic freight train line lies. The West Side Line was abandoned in 1980, and has since been transformed into an elevated park now called the High Line. This is a great little spot that brings an urban oasis and a touch of nature to the high rise buildings that surround it. The route also passes through the west edge of the Chelsea Market - which is the perfect place to dine for lunch.

Finish your day with a bike tour around Central Park. Home to concerts, Central Park Zoo and numerous attractions such as the Belvedere Castle, Alice in Wonderland sculptures and the elaborate water feature within the Ancient Playground.

What to wear: Basix button through shirt from Sunseeker paired with shorts and sneakers.

Times Square

When you’re not walking, the best way to get around is by Subway to avoid overpriced taxis and shuttles. A trip to New York is not complete without a visit to the famous Times Square. Brightly lit with famed billboards - it’s one of the busiest places in New York, but still worth a visit. For theatre lovers, it’s home to the Broadway Theatre District - and we highly recommend checking out what’s showing. It’s also home to the famous New Year’s Eve Ball Drop and a popular destination over the holiday season. The perfect place to spend a night out on the town.

If you have time, head up to the R Lounge at Renaissance Hotel - which boasts some of the best panoramic views of the square below.

What to wear: Faith Mini dress paired with our Made in Mada Alice Bag

Must-see Museums

A poignant spot to visit is the 9/11 Memorial and museum. Located at the former location of the twin towers, two reflective pools were created as a memorial for those that lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks. The site also houses the September 11 Museum which is home to artefacts from the day. This is a deeply reflective location - but has been put together beautifully, and is well worth the trip.

For art lovers, we also recommend a day trip to the MET. Famed for its annual MET gala - this museum is home to spanning galleries of modern and contemporary art, and no matter the season, there’s always something fascinating on display. Free tours are always on offer, and there are numerous events held at the MET throughout the year - so always check out their website to see what’s coming up before you visit.

What to wear: Vestito Fausta Garzata dress from La Bottega. This can be worn long, or knotted to the side for a chic look.

Brooklyn Bridge

Lastly on our New York list of must-dos is a cycle across the Brooklyn Bridge. The bridge links Manhattan and Brooklyn, and cycling across it is a great way to take in the sights while avoiding the traffic - as it was transformed into a two-way protected bike lane in 2021. Be sure to stop at the bridge’s two towers to take in the 360 degree views of New York’s skyline. This is a fantastic way to end your New York trip and really take in the beauty of the city as a whole.

What to wear: Pair our Cascades dress with a comfortable pair of sneakers.
